Frequently Asked Questions

Privacy & Data

Does PerCycle send my data anywhere?

No. Your cycle data, symptoms, mood logs, and health information never leave your iPhone. PerCycle has no servers, no cloud database, and no backend infrastructure of any kind. Everything is processed and stored entirely on your device using Apple's on-device database technology.

Can PerCycle see my health data?

No. We have no way to access your data even if we wanted to. There is no account, no login, and no connection to any external system. Your data exists only on your phone.

Will my data appear in iCloud backups?

No. PerCycle explicitly excludes your health data from iCloud backup at the filesystem level. Your cycle history does not flow to Apple's iCloud servers as part of device backups.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

Your data is deleted with the app. Since everything is stored locally, uninstalling PerCycle removes all of your cycle history, symptom logs, and preferences from your device permanently.

Has PerCycle ever shared data with advertisers or third parties?

No. PerCycle contains zero advertising SDKs, zero analytics frameworks that transmit data, and zero third-party integrations of any kind. This is verifiable — PerCycle will never appear in any network traffic monitor because it makes no network requests related to your health data.

Why should I trust PerCycle when other apps said the same thing?

Because our privacy is architectural, not a policy promise. Apps like Flo were caught sharing data because their business model required a server — your data had to leave your phone to reach their systems. PerCycle has no server. There is nothing to breach and no one to share with because we built it so your data physically cannot reach us.

Is PerCycle safe to use in regions with restrictive reproductive laws?

PerCycle is designed with this concern in mind. Your cycle data stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere. With Face ID lock and discreet notification mode enabled, your health data is protected even if your phone is examined. We recommend enabling biometric lock and discreet notifications for maximum protection.

Predictions & Accuracy

How does PerCycle predict my next period?

PerCycle uses a Bayesian adaptive prediction engine that learns from your personal cycle history. Unlike apps that assume a 28-day cycle, PerCycle analyzes your actual logged cycles, accounts for natural variation, detects gradual shifts in your pattern, and weights recent cycles more heavily than older ones. The more you log, the more accurate your predictions become.

How long does it take for predictions to become accurate?

Your first prediction appears immediately based on the information you provide during onboarding. Accuracy improves meaningfully after 3 logged cycles and reaches high confidence after 5 or more. PerCycle shows you an accuracy score on your prediction card so you always know how much to rely on it.

My cycle is irregular. Can PerCycle still help me?

Yes. PerCycle has a dedicated irregular cycle mode that adapts its prediction strategy for high-variability patterns. It uses a wider prediction window and adjusts its confidence score to reflect real uncertainty rather than pretending to be more accurate than it is. Irregular users often find the symptom tracking and phase insights more immediately useful than the prediction itself.

What does the accuracy score mean?

The accuracy score reflects how consistent your cycle history is and how well the engine has learned your pattern. A higher score means more predictable predictions. It is a quality indicator based on your personal data — not a statistical probability derived from population averages.

Why is my predicted period date in the past?

This can happen on a fresh install if the dates entered during onboarding create an unexpected pattern. Go to Settings → Data Management → Delete All Data, then complete onboarding again with accurate dates. If the problem persists, tap "Why?" on the prediction card for a detailed explanation of how the prediction was calculated.

Does PerCycle track ovulation and fertility windows?

Yes, as an optional feature. PerCycle estimates your fertility window and ovulation day based on your cycle data. These are estimates based on typical ovulation patterns and are for informational purposes only. They are not reliable for pregnancy planning or contraception. Enable them in Settings → Calendar Display.

Features

What can I log in PerCycle?

You can log flow intensity (spotting through very heavy), mood (13 options), energy level, 20+ symptoms with severity levels, sleep hours, stress level, basal body temperature, ovulation test results, cervical mucus, and freeform notes. All fields are optional — log as much or as little as you want.

What are cycle phases and why do they matter?

Your menstrual cycle has four phases: Menstrual (days 1–5), Follicular (days 6–13), Ovulatory (days 14–16), and Luteal (days 17 through end). Each phase involves different hormonal activity that affects your energy, mood, focus, and physical symptoms. Understanding your phases helps you anticipate how you'll feel and plan your life accordingly. PerCycle shows you which phase you're in every day with tailored insights.

What is the Symptom Heatmap?

The Symptom Heatmap shows the average intensity of each symptom you track across each phase of your cycle, over your full history. It reveals patterns like "my headaches are most intense during luteal phase" or "bloating peaks around ovulation" — patterns that are impossible to notice cycle by cycle but become clear when viewed across months of data.

What are Pattern Insights?

Pattern Insights are automatically generated observations from your logged data. Examples include detecting that your cramps have been increasing over recent cycles, identifying correlations between poor sleep and more severe PMS symptoms, or flagging a gradual shift in your cycle length that might indicate a hormonal change worth discussing with your doctor.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Settings → Data Management to export your complete history as JSON or CSV. JSON includes your full cycle history, symptom logs, and profile data. CSV is formatted for easy reading in spreadsheet apps. You can also generate a Clinical PDF summary formatted for sharing with a healthcare provider. None of these exports go through any server — the file is generated on your device and shared however you choose.

Can I transfer my data to a new iPhone?

Yes, using the export/import feature. Export your data as JSON on your old iPhone, transfer the file via AirDrop or iMessage to your new iPhone, then import it through Settings → Data Management → Import Data. Your full cycle history will be restored. This is the most privacy-consistent transfer method since your data never touches any cloud infrastructure.

Does PerCycle work with Apple Health?

Not currently. PerCycle is intentionally designed as a self-contained local app. HealthKit integration would require data to pass through Apple's HealthKit framework, which introduces complexity around what data is accessible to other apps. We are evaluating this for a future update.

Subscription & Billing

How much does PerCycle Pro cost?

PerCycle Pro is available as a monthly subscription at $9.99/month or an annual subscription at $29.99/year (equivalent to $2.49/month). Annual saves 75% compared to monthly.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new subscriber gets a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged until Day 7. We send you a reminder notification on Day 6 so you are never surprised by a charge.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the iPhone Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → PerCycle → Cancel Subscription. You can cancel at any time before Day 7 of your trial and pay nothing. After the trial, cancelling stops future charges and you retain access until the end of your current billing period.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your data stays on your phone. Cancelling a subscription does not delete your cycle history. PerCycle is not a cloud service — your data is yours regardless of your subscription status.

Can I restore a previous subscription?

Yes. Go to Settings in the app → tap "Restore Purchases" at the top of the screen. This will restore your active subscription if you previously subscribed on the same Apple ID.

Does PerCycle have ads?

No. PerCycle has no ads, no sponsored content, and no advertising partnerships of any kind. Revenue comes entirely from subscriptions.

Technical

Which iPhones are supported?

PerCycle requires iOS 17.0 or later. It is compatible with iPhone X and newer models that support iOS 17.

Does PerCycle work offline?

Yes, completely. PerCycle requires no internet connection for any of its features. Everything runs on your device.

How do I protect my data with Face ID?

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → enable Biometric Lock. Once enabled, PerCycle will require Face ID or your passcode to open. The app will also re-lock automatically if it has been in the background for more than 60 seconds.

What is discreet notification mode?

Discreet mode replaces health-specific notification content with a generic "A personal reminder is scheduled" message. This means your period predictions and health reminders will not display sensitive content on your lock screen where others might see it. Enable it in Settings → Notifications → Notification Style → Discreet.

My prediction card shows "Still Learning" — what does that mean?

This means PerCycle does not yet have enough cycle history to make a high-confidence prediction. It typically appears in the first 1-3 cycles. Keep logging and the accuracy will improve. Your prediction is still functional — it just reflects the engine's current level of certainty.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Email us at percycle@outlook.com with a description of what happened, what you expected to happen, and your iOS version. We review every report.

About PerCycle

Who made PerCycle?

PerCycle was built independently with a single focus: giving women a period tracker they can actually trust with their most sensitive health data.

Why did you build this?

Because every major period tracking app has been caught compromising user privacy in some way — sharing data with advertisers, law enforcement, or data brokers. We believed it was possible to build a genuinely intelligent cycle tracker without any of those compromises. PerCycle is that app.

Is PerCycle a medical device?

No. PerCycle is a personal health tracking tool for informational purposes. It is not a medical device and has not received clearance from the FDA, CE, or any other regulatory body. The insights and predictions PerCycle generates are based on your personal logged data and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider for any medical concerns.
